Company Overview

Arete Engineering is a leading provider of engineering solutions specializing in mechanical and process systems for advanced technology and industrial manufacturing facilities, including semiconductor manufacturing. Our mission is to deliver innovative and sustainable engineering services that enhance the performance and efficiency of our clients' operations.

Position Overview

As a Designer II you will work under the supervision of a Senior Engineer to continue to develop skills and knowledge in MEP design and engineering. You will work on complex projects, both independently and in team collaboration, while contributing significantly to system design and project management. The Designer II needs to possess working proficiency and knowledge with CADD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). You will be expected to take on a more independent and proactive role in the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), including HVAC, piping, and process systems, with a primary focus on advanced technology facilities such as semiconductor and related cleanroom manufacturing environments. This position requires a higher level of responsibility and accountability compared to Designer I and is suitable for those with a few years of hands-on experience in the engineering field.
Important to note, while this is a remote / WFH position, candidates must reside in the greater Austin, TX area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing accurate 2D / 3D design packages for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process piping systems by interpreting engineering calculations and transferring them into comprehensive CADD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) packages using AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM software.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (architects, engineers, and contractors) to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Participate in design and coordination meetings, as well as BIM coordination reviews. Provide support during project reviews, identifying design challenges and proposing solutions.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and drawing sets.
  • Maintain familiarity with BIM processes and coordinate with other disciplines using BIM tools.
  • Attend, contribute, and at times lead project meetings, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors to ensure timely delivery and quality of project milestones.
  • Conduct field walks to gather site conditions, monitor construction progress, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure strict adherence to design specifications.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, designers, project managers, and business operations to develop proposals, budgets, and schedules, and assist in client presentations.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to MEP systems, focusing on innovations in advanced technology sectors.
  • Help support the development of junior-level staff by providing guidance, feedback, and technical expertise.
Qualifications
  Required:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience in a Designer / Drafter role working in the A/E/C industry with strong understanding of MEP systems design and coordination.
  • Education may include CADD certificate, Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field, or proven experience in a similar role (CADD Operator/Technician, Drafter, Designer).
  • Proficiency in engineering CADD software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering calculations into 2D / 3D drawings and models.
  • Possess current knowledge of industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic project environment.
  • Willingness and ability to attend on-site client visits, field walks, and team meetings upon request.

  Preferred:
  • Familiarity with the design and installation processes for semiconductor and related advanced manufacturing facilities (base build, process utilities, tool installation/hookup).
  • Knowledgeable in BIM (Building Information Modeling).
  • Preference for candidates who live in the greater Austin, TX area, though relocation may not be required.
Key Competencies
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Elevated level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a proactive and flexible approach.

  • Comprehensive health benefits plan options
  • Retirement plan with company match

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
